Plastic Diaries – Guilt

I haven’t gone to the extremes of not using products that I already own, that would almost be a double waste. Toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, soap, cleaning products, clothes detergent, dishwasher tabs, toilet roll and other offending items were all already in my flat and opened before January first. So they are passable…for now.

I am grateful that this is the case as it gives me somewhat of an opportunity to go out and acquire these items in their plastic-free form before I become a smelly, starving somebody who has forgotten how to function.

It doesn’t mean to say that I don’t feel dreadful each time I reach out for that cold, hard, plastic bottle. Cleaning has a dirty twinge to it now and I can’t look at my bathroom in the same way again.

This exercise was intended to reduce my plastic waste but I’m slowly realising it’s becoming much more of a project that raises awareness. I’m only three days in and I think I’m already starting to get the point.
